Abstract

Turkey’s first living quadruplets were born in 1950, in Izmir and because of the infrequency of quadruplet’s birth, even in the world, it had made a great impact. Hürriyet, Uhuvvet, Adalet and Musavvat, who were called shortly “Izmir’s quadruplets” and was believed that they symbolized the abundance of Aegean, received a great deal of attention from the people of Izmir in 1950s and left a mark in social life. Izmir’s quadruplets became the symbol of an era. Both because of their names which were given thereby inspiring from French Revolution and were emphasizing the government change that happened in the same year and because of people’s struggle for their survival, care, and education. This research purposed put in mind Izmir’s quadruplets interesting story and their impact in social life in the light of the news which took part in local and national media, the data which were supported by town council’s reports and an oral history work.
